Why Not Show a Video for CA Sexual Harassment Training: Why not just play a video for sexual harassment training? Playing a DVD or PowerPoint is not CA SB 1343 compliant sexual harassment prevention training.
Simply playing a DVD or showing a PowerPoint does not meet the definition of California SB1343-compliant sexual harassment prevention training.
Looking for a DVD, video or PowerPoint for sexual harassment prevention training to meet the requirements of California’s SB-1343? This may not be the smartest way to go, and could even hurt you and your company. Let the buyer beware: here are a few reasons why these offerings won’t offer solution value.
1. All SB1343-compliant sexual harassment prevention training must be delivered by a Qualified Trainer as per the statute.
This is not one of those trainings your HR Generalist can stand up in the front of the break room and deliver. Only certain attorneys (but not all lawyers), certain types of HR Specialists (but not all), and certain university professors (you guessed it) qualify to deliver this training under the statute.
What’s more, this training requirement comes on the heels of the #metoo movement and overlapping a national pandemic, meaning that the individuals that meet the requirements to be a qualified trainer may find themselves unavailable or unwilling to serve in these roles due to competing (and more lucrative) opportunities for use of their time. So qualified trainers are in a bit of a shortage, and not all are willing to make a break room appearance.
